DVD: Independence Day

Given the week, we thought it was a good time to watch this movie. Um… OK, that’s not true. It just happened to be the next Netflix movie on my queue, and I’d had it on my desk for quite some time. But earlier today we decided to watch it. I had never seen it before.

I’m not sure how exactly I went more than a decade without actually seeing this, but I did. As it turns out, I enjoyed it. It was fun for that sort of movie. Amy also had never seen it and was getting quite into it and very animated. Thus, it was a good family movie night over all.

Brandy needed to point out all the inaccuracies about the planes of course. I refrained from mentioning the whole virus into an alien ship with a couple of hours of analysis thing. But it all really doesn’t matter, cause technical accuracy is certainly not something this film was interested in at all. You don’t need to in order to have an aliens attack, they are winning, then we fight back movie.

Worth a watch. Fun. Will probably never watch it again.

Oh yeah, we watched the Special Edition, which had something like 10 minutes of extra footage, apparently mostly character background development near the beginning.

F/A-18A&C’s just don’t have parachutes about where the speed brake should be. Neither do the B, D, E & F for that matter.

    But this one was SPECIAL.

and bill pullman would never be president, let alone be allowed to get up in a jet during combat, but i got over it…

I, for one, would have no problem sending Bill Pullman into combat in a jet. If Bill Pullman was President, I might have even less of a problem with it.

I’d never heard of Pullman before watching this movie. Any particular reason why you both are all negative on his potential Presidency?

    – Ruthless People
    – The Zero Effect

The former was a fine, funny movie, but it’s hard to imagine “the stupidest man alive” as the President. (Okay. It used to be more difficult than it is now.)

The latter was… Well… I dunno. But that one really sticks out as an anti-Pullman thing.

    without going to imbd… let’s see…

    – Lost Highway (artsy, dark movie. i liked it, but not for pullman)
    – While You Were Sleeping (shoot me for know this one)
    – Igby Goes Down (another artsy movie…I think McCauly Caulkin’s younger brother played the lead. this was a weird movie).
    – Lake Placid (the giant gator in the lake that Betty White feeds cows to. A classic!!)
    – Singles (you should know this Sam now that you live in Seattle!)
    – and the arc d’triumph ….SPACEBALLS. Come on…there’s no way you don’t know who Pullman is now.

OK, I just added ALL of those movies to my Netflix queue. :-)
