Drove under its own power for the last time on Saturday. Confirmed permanently dead by the mechanic this morning. 15 years and 9 months old. It is a sad day! Sniff. :-(
Of course I COULD decide to drop several grand on a new engine, and thus keep it running a bit longer, but that would most likely not be the smartest decision. :-)
@IB: I guess you are right. Sigh! But, but, if we got a new engine, and then a new transmission sometime, and kept doing stuff like that, in 50 or 60 years it might be rare and Alex could take it around to antique car shows!
@RMB: Short term solution is a lot of car pooling, plus we spent some money to make Brandy’s old 1980’s Buick Reatta drivable again (although not particularly comfortably so) when we absolutely need a second car to manage getting everybody where they need to be. I’m also sometimes using (gasp!) public transportation. In late November we will probably get me an actual new car (I’m thinking Subaru Impreza Hatchback at the moment). And we might, maybe, just possibly, get Amy an older cheaper used car as well, as all our lives will be made much easier if all three of us are able to independently get where we need to be. Right now the logistics of delivering everybody where they need to be every day is just killing us.
Wow, 15 yrs! My volvo is ~10 now… I still like it though.
