Curmudgeon’s Corner: Talking is Hard

On this week’s Curmudgeon’s Corner, Sam and Ivan try to keep things pithy and concise by having only two topics but fail utterly and completely as they go in-depth into the latest Trump nonsense as well as the latest pandemic related developments. Plus Ivan tells us about his light summer reading! So there you go.

Social Security – what is deducted is not “your earnings” – what is deducted from current workers pays for MY social security – it is not a savings account – the payment is calculated on what you earn your last 10 years. But yes, if you collect before retirement age you get less and retirement age has moved older because people live longer – and there is a whole separate kind of social security that gives a small amount for people with disabilities, hardly enough to live on but… The discussion you need is why the social security fund which is OFF budget for the USA has been borrowed from by Congress to meet bills leaving it with much less than it really should have. It should NOT run out of money if that part of the national debt is repaid to the SS FUND!
