March 1998 Trip: Day 2
Day 2 was a multi-part trip. The first part of the day was to head from Rebecca and Chris's place in Reston, VA to Chad Hunter's place in Charlottesville, VA. The rules for today were basically to just go the way the GPS told us to go be it interstate or US route or whatnot. We did decide to avoid the really small roads today. We'll save that for Day 3 and 4. As it turned out, after a bunch of residential roads in Northern Virginia we got on US 28 which pointed in an almost direct line to Chad's. That led us to US 15 and then US 29 almost always pointed straight at Chad. And indeed, US 29 passed about a quarter mile from Chad's. We stopped there and had lunch with Chad and say his lab. Then it was on to part two of the day's trip, which was going to Al Michael's place in High Point, North Carolina. Easy route. US 29 went almost directly from Chad's house to Al's house. We just had a few local roads right at the end as we got within five miles of Al's house. And of course at both locations, the GPS got us straight to the goal on the first shot, even though we had never been there before and only knew the address and had no directions. Even though we stayed mostly on US routes rather than small local roads, it was increadibly scenic. We saw lots of mountains and cows. And tons and tons of Baptist Churches.
