All four humans in the house have fun exciting colds of varying degrees of intensity. Some started almost two weeks ago and are still hanging on. Others are just getting started. There is lots of coughing and sneezing and such. I’m sure there are some allergies in the mix too. So much excitement! Yum!

No fancy video, but I thought I’d pass along that last night when Amy was making some funny faces and noises for Alex, Alex responded by imitating and doing the exact same thing back, which caused Amy to yelp and squeal and hop with joy, which caused Alex to get a huge smile on his face and jump and hop and giggle. The two of them proceeded to go back and forth with who was doing the odd smacking motions and sounds with their mouth, and who was laughing and giggling and squealing. This lasted probably a good fifteen minutes before Alex got bored and decided he would rather do something else. :-)  2010 Feb 25 03:59 UTC  Last night was Alex’s first night sleeping all by himself in his own room rather than just a foot or two from Mom. Right now he is working on night number two in his room. This may be a small milestone for Alex, but I think it is an even bigger milestone for Mom. :-)
At 19:32 UTC today, a little under 90 minutes ago, Alex did the pulling himself up from sitting to standing with no external human intervention for the first time. Yay Alex!  I actually liked a different one taken three seconds earlier a bit better, but this one was on “the list” so I used it instead, even though that violated my rule of not letting the list affect my editorial choices and just cropping or blurring or skipping ones not on the list. :-)
Lets see…. culture clash between the new bad girl and the boarding school girls. Conflict ensues. But through a series of events the girls find they can relate after all, and the boarding school girls learn a bit from the new girl, and the new girl learns a bit from the boarding school girls. Oh, and of course there is a romantic interest, and a few people to act as advisories. In the end the bad girl learns a lesson about friendship and humanity and they all live happily ever after. Yeah, pretty much that. Brandy was groaning and asking when it would be over almost from the very first scene. I didn’t mind it that much. I thought it was actually kind of amusing. No depth of course. No surprises. Nothing super interesting. But yet amusing. It killed a couple of hours. If your teenage girl wants to watch this, it won’t kill you. But otherwise, if you are not yourself a teenage girl, you can very safely skip this.  2010 Feb 25 01:13 UTC That would be William Maynard Minter and William Alexander Minter of course.
We saw it in a real Science Center IMAX place (not one of those fake multi-plex IMAXes) and of course in 3D. Of course, I have nothing of real value to add that hasn’t been said many hundreds of times over about this movie. It is indeed visually impressive. The technological advances involved in making something like this are exiting. It is good stuff on that front. On the story front it is pretty formulaic and predictable, but it is one of those movies where that is not the point, and you are supposed to just hang on and enjoy the ride rather than spend much time on deep thoughts about the plot, what anything means, or about the actual characters. Which is fine. But one thing I could not forgive… the floating mountains. Really?? And without so much as a throw away line trying to explain it. OK, maybe a throw away line saying people still didn’t understand or some such. But not even a “the insides are filled with helium” or something. Come on! At least try! But again, it doesn’t matter in the end I guess. I’m sure everybody who wants to see this already has. So, you know, whatever. But it is worth seeing. And it is worth seeing in IMAX and in 3D. |
