Curmudgeon’s Corner: Willy Nilly

This week on Curmudgeon’s Corner, Ed joins Sam to discuss North Korea, how SCOTUS deals with precedent, this week’s story about immigrants in the military being discharged, and the latest in the trade wars and the economy. Before all that, they also do a quick update on the situation with the kids who have been separated from their parents at the border, and we find out if Sam’s family made it to the destination of their big road trip.

This week on Curmudgeon’s Corner, Sam and Ivan’s three main topics are the USA’s alliances and the strains Trump is putting on them, the upcoming North Korean summit, and a hodgepodge of legal related stuff like last week’s SCOTUS cases, the Obamacare lawsuit, the new Manafort charges, and the Trump legal team’s letter to Mueller. Before all that though, they mark an anniversary, discuss Ivan’s recent trip to China, talk about the destruction of Sam’s son’s iPad, and more!

Curmudgeon’s Corner: Return of the Beep

On Curmudgeon’s Corner this week, Sam and Ivan’s main topics are North Korea and the dust up between CNN and the guy on Reddit. They pack a lot of smaller topics in this week too though. Rick Perry on Economics. The 2014 Annie remake. Dress codes in Congress and elsewhere. The Seattle minimum wage. A listener fact checks our last episode. And much much more…

6700 km from North Korea

Here is a quick and dirty Google Maps chart showing the areas of the world roughly within range of the North Korean missile tested today if early analysis is correct. Pyongyang and Seattle marked for reference. Everything on the Pyongyang side of the red curve potentially in range.

(Created by constraining my random spot generator to points 6700 km from Pyongyang, apologies for the Mercator projection.)

Curmudgeon’s Corner: Squeaky Chair

This week on Curmudgeon’s Corner Sam and Ivan deviate from politics for a little while to talk some tech! Namely, Juicero, cord cutting, and Apple’s pro strategy. Of course after that they get back to the news and politics of the week… That would be Trump’s 100 day milestone, Trump’s tax plan, the budget deadline and Obama making money on speeches on the domestic side. Internationally they discuss tariffs on Canada, “The Wall”, and NAFTA. Along the way there are also some corrections, a milestone for this podcast, and Trump’s Big Red Button.
